Winemakers series: Signae (Umbria)
At a young age, Riccardo Longo learned on his Nonno’s farm in Italy that some of the best olive oils in Italy grow on olive trees in the vineyard. With this philosophy Gran Caffe L’Aquila is proud to present the “ WineMakers Series EVOO”.
Small production olive oil made in the Montefalco wine zone of Umbria. Signae is internationally known for its Sagrantino wine, but the locals in town know there is also a beautiful olive oil produced there. A blend of local olives with Moraiolo leading the way.
1) Umbrian Moraiolo:This medium-fruity olive oil is complex and powerful in flavor with notes of artichoke, rosemary & sage. It’s a pleasantly pungent oil with an almond-peperoncino finish.
2) Leccino & Frantoio: These are softer olive oils that balance the intensity of the moraiolo. Notes from these olives include delicate fruit including apple, garden herbs, butter, grass, & black pepper
