Malloreddus, also known internationally as Sardinian gnocchi is a semolina and water dumpling which had been made on the island for centuries. It is the pasta that is featured at family celebrations and holidays in Sardegna.

The name is dialect for baby calf as the farming families that created it felt that the dumplings shape reminded them of new born baby calfs.
