Panforte, Marabisi

The traditional dessert of Siena, Tuscany. Panforte is a dried fruitcake style dessert bread made from all-natural, healthy ingredients such as dried fruit, honey, nuts and spices. It was historically called panpepato, but later the local Sienese changed the name to Panforte due to its powerful flavor profile.

Many variations of the original recipe have been established, although debates continue as to which type is the tastiest! This Fig and walnut variation is extremely popular.

They are easily paired with a dessert wine or with a sharp cheese. However, a new trend is incorporating this sweet into a multitude of dishes, salads, cheese trays, filets, and even bacon-wrapped chicken.

Take a bite into Italian confectionary history, these are the original Amaretti! Since 1718 the Lazzoroni family has crafted amaretti cookies in Saronno, Italy according to their family's traditional recipe. They feature a luscious almond flavor and a fresh crunch when bitten.

Lazzoroni is a historic company which created the the Amaretti di Saronno. In fact, ‘amaretti di Saronno is a registered trademark of the Company. It was officially marketed under this brand name in 1888. However, the the original baking of the cookies in the family dates back to 1718, when the Lazzaroni family, whose origins are in Teglio, in Valtellina, moved to Saronno and began the small-scale production of amaretti.

Majani was the first chocolate maker to produce hard chocolate from the liquid drinks that were enjoyed by European aristocracy and clergy through the late 1700's. Their original shop opened in the center of Bologna in 1796 and is still in service today.

Their most signature creation is the world famous FIAT cube, made for one of the early FIAT automobiles in 1911. It is a fine chocolate made with four interchanging layers of milk chocolate and various fillings.

The tastefully designed and classically European paper wraps are a prelude to the fine chocolate.
